St Patrick’s Day is but a week away, an event celebrated all over the world that originally started off as a religious holiday marking the death of the patron saint of Ireland but which has now evolved to be a celebration of Irish culture as a whole.
Each year, local communities everywhere put on parades, fill their tables with delicious Irish food, hold firework displays… and, of course, dress up in all sorts of interesting and unique costumes to mark the day.
As well as lots of green, something else you’ll notice people sporting is shamrocks. Shamrocks galore! These iconic plants are actually three-leaf clovers, used by St Patrick to explain Christianity’s Holy Trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
As the story goes, St Patrick used the plant to show how the three leaves were united as one by the stem and from the 17th century onwards, people started pinning the shamrocks onto their lapels by way of celebration, a tradition that is still very much in evidence today.
Getting all dolled up for St Paddy’s Day really couldn’t be easier! All you really need to do is wear something green, but you can go as big and as bold as you like.
If you’re looking to make a serious statement next week, what about upping the ante with a pair of green and white over-the-knee socks? We’ve got lots of different variations on the theme here at MN Hosiery, so take a look to see what we’ve got in stock if you’re planning your St Patrick’s Day costumes right now.
Hopefully this sunshine that we’ve been blessed with over the last few days will hold out until the 17th… but even if it doesn’t, you’ll be nice and toasty in your thigh-high socks. What more could you possibly ask for!
